Program Lead, Communication
Jess Smith is an Air Force veteran with 21 years of communications experience. She has extensive experience providing strategic communications support in all avenues of communications including crisis communications, strategic communication planning, internal communications, media relations, community relations, speechwriting and event planning. Jess has provided trusted guidance and support to corporate and military leaders to help develop communication strategies to increase revenue, productivity and organizational vision.
Jess previously worked at Sikorsky, Lockheed Martin where she supported communication efforts focused on Future Vertical Lift and autonomy integration into helicopters as well as all internal and external public relations for the Engineering and Technology Division of Sikorsky. Throughout her career, Jess has led communications programs for general officers as well as corporate executives with measurable successful results. Her support to military programs both in and out of the uniform has brought her from the U-2 program at Beale Air Force Base in California to Langley Air Force Base where she was the Public Affairs Officer for the Commander of Air Combat Command (ACC) to working at the Air Force Press Desk in the Pentagon directly following 9/11. During time spent in Haiti and Afghanistan in uniform, Jess has a full appreciation “rolling up her sleeves” to accomplish the mission as well as strategizing with commanders to align all aspects of communication efforts to maximize stakeholder knowledge and public understanding.
Jess dives into learning and understanding her client’s mission to better help communicate each objective to any target audience in the most effective way possible. Her experience in leading communication programs for defense acquisition, intelligence and highly technical programs have enabled her to lead clients through media, congressional and government executive stakeholder engagements at all levels.
