JANSON has an opening for a full-time Writer-Editor to provide expert writing support to our US Army client. This is a hybrid position working on our client site at Fort Belvoir, Virginia 3 days a week and from your home office 2 days a week, some travel required.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • 7-10 years’ experience in writing and editing

  • Serve as a writer-editor for the quarterly Army AL&T Magazine and writing, editing, researching, and fact-checking articles

  • Identify issues and initiate articles for publication in the magazine and all client digital platforms

  • Develop graphics and photos to support articles and advise on article selection, placement, format, layout, and extent of technical detail

  • Monitor contract graphic artists’ efforts and organize publication production schedules

  • Proofread and revise page proofs and prepare final pages for submission to the printer and press inspections of printed pages

  • Respond to inquiries and requests from readers and the public

  • Organize preparation and dissemination of regular readership surveys, including organizing analysis of results and writing or editing articles on the results for publication, coordinate and coach contributors

  • Desired skills: demonstrated knowledge of acquisition processes, products, and organization of Army Acquisition, or equivalent

  • An expert in English grammar, syntax, punctuation, word usage, and reference resources for fact-checking

  • Familiar with the publications’ style references, including the Associated Press Stylebook, and Merriam-Webster’s dictionary

  • Ability to locate and use authoritative online references such as for military unit organization and weapon systems

  • Ability to determine that the material to be published is suitable in terms of coverage, balance, and presentation, and adheres to the mission and vision of the publication

  • Knowledgeable of Army regulations and policy for publishing and printing

  • Must have communication skills to consult with other divisions within the organization and, when requested, higher headquarters on publishing projects

  • Conduct interviews with leaders in the Army AL&T community

  • Capabilities in journalistic writing and proficiency in AP Style, and familiarity with writing content for online platforms

  • Knowledge of acquisition processes, products and organization of Army Acquisition, or equivalent is desired.
